Summary and Corporate Profile:

Our client, a leading underground gold mining operation in Ghana, is seeking to recruit a Mine Captain – UG Dewatering & Paste Backfill Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing underground dewatering and paste backfill operations to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous
production. This role is crucial to maintaining mine water control, paste fill quality, and compliance with regulatory standards while promoting operational excellence and team performance.

Role Description and Responsibilities

● Install, commission, and maintain underground dewatering systems, including pumps, pipelines, and sumps.
● Plan, monitor, and control water levels and flow rates to prevent flooding in declines and level accesses.
● Conduct regular inspections and desilting of dewatering sumps and chambers to maintain system performance.
● Support in the design and implementation of new mine drainage and water management systems.
● Collaborate with engineering, hydrogeology, and operations teams to optimize dewatering performance and reduce costs.
● Ensure mine service water storage and distribution to all underground levels meet operational needs.

● Oversee installation and maintenance of paste bulkheads, pipelines, and reticulation systems.
● Ensure proper use and maintenance of paste fill equipment such as transmixers, ITs, shotcrete machines, and instrumentation.
● Plan and monitor paste reticulation and fill points to ensure compliance with design and environmental standards.
● Manage paste fill procurement, quality control, and quality assurance processes at the batch plant.
● Supervise cable bolting, grouting, and tensioning operations in accordance with engineering standards.
● Promote a proactive safety culture aligned with company standards and regulatory frameworks.
● Ensure all work practices comply with Ghana Mining Regulations (L.I. 2182) and environmental requirements.
● Contribute to cost control initiatives and continuous improvement in underground service delivery.
● Prepare technical reports and performance summaries for management review.
● Lead and mentor team members to develop technical skills and operational discipline.
● Perform other duties assigned by the Manager – Projects and Mine Services.

Working Experience and Education Requirements:

● Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
● Mine Captain and Geotechnical Certificates of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
● Minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in underground mining, focusing on dewatering, water management, and paste fill operations.
● Proven expertise in underground water management systems, pumps, and pipelines.
● Advanced knowledge of paste fill systems and infrastructure installations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

● In-depth understanding of underground dewatering and paste fill principles.
● Strong knowledge of Ghana Mining Regulations (L.I. 2182) and related compliance frameworks.
● Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
● Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate technical operations.
● Valid First Aid Certificate and Ghanaian Driver’s Licence.
● High commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
